How Swivvia handles content about self-harm and suicide

Last updated

Swivvia follows evidence-based safe messaging guidelines to protect users who may be vulnerable to content about suicide and self-harm.

Our approach

We work with mental health experts and follow guidelines from organizations like the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC).

What we prohibit

Swivvia does not allow content that:

• Encourages, glorifies, or instructs methods of self-harm or suicide

• Targets individuals with messages encouraging them to hurt themselves

• Contains graphic imagery of self-harm intended to shock or trigger others

What we allow

We recognize that people share experiences as part of healing. Content is allowed when it:

• Shares personal experiences in a way that promotes recovery and hope

• Raises awareness and advocates for mental health support

• Educates others using safe messaging guidelines

What happens when content is reported

1. Our Safety team reviews reported content, typically within 24 hours

2. Content that violates our policy is removed

3. Users who post violating content may receive a warning or account action

4. In cases of immediate risk, we may contact emergency services

Connecting users to help

When our systems detect content that may indicate someone is in crisis, we may:

• Show a prompt with crisis resources (like the 988 Lifeline)

• Prevent the content from being published

• Notify our Safety team for review

Report content

If you see content that concerns you, tap the three dots (···) on any post and select Report. Choose "Self-harm or suicide" as the reason.

Our Safety team reviews all reports around the clock.
